Application of Extended Observer with Gain Scheduling Control to Internal Combustion Engine Model

چکیده

In this paper, an extended observer was investigated and then implemented for generating approximate state feedback for an Internal Combustion (IC) engine. IC engines are inherently highly nonlinear in nature, therefore, present a problem for system modeling and observer design. A state-dependent gain scheduling control was used to improve state estimation. An extended observer was implemented for providing state feedback of the IC model presented in this paper. The extended observer’s performance was analyzed by looking at the output response to a desired output command, added model disturbance and initial condition variation. Moreover, the robustness of the closed loop system to parameter variations was tested. Matlab was used for simulation and the results shown in this paper demonstrated that the extended observer was a good tool for IC engine control. The use of state-dependent gain scheduling allowed the extended observer to stay robust for the entire operating range and showed good results to meeting a desired output command.
